Agent O - American Pale Ale - 6% - This beer predates Tox Brewing altogether. While an all Citra Pale Ale is not an original concept in 2018, Jon first brewed this over five years ago on his back porch and called it Orange Cap... because he only had orange bottle caps at the time he went to bottle it. This beer achieves all of it's IBUs from late boil additions of Citra, and is then heavily whirlpooled and dry-hopped with Citra for maximum Citra hop flavor optimization.
Angel Wings – American IPA – 6.7% ABV – Our American IPA and one of the first ever Tox originals. It is the culmination of our always inspired and never satisfied urge to make a hop forward IPA that meets our standards. The result is a full bodied treat that is hop heavy and brilliant orange in color. Angel Wings takes flight on wings of strong aromas of dank citrus and flavors of grapefruit, melon, and mango, all wrapped in a delicate halo of bitterness.
Angel’s Trumpet – Double IPA – 8.6% ABV – This is a scaled up and fully hop saturated version of our beloved Angel Wings. It starts with more of the same hop selection in Angel Wings and the Devil’s Trumpet base recipe, the goal being to exude heavy citrus and tropical fruit flavors. We notice bursting aromas of citrus and tropical fruit followed by flavors of citrus, peach, passion fruit, and subtle biscuit. We dare you to put down your glass once this deceivingly high ABV treat coats your palate with enslaving hop oils.
Black Widow – Imperial Stout – 8.5% ABV – Our imperial stout backs off on the roasted barley and chocolate malt in favor of a delicate balance of crystal malts and an array of other dark malts to create deep layered flavor. Thick, smooth, and slightly dry on the finish with a crisp bitterness, We taste spirit soaked dark chocolate, toasted almonds, and lightly smoked plum raisin
Dart Frog – IPA – 6.8% ABV – A big IPA named after a small animal... The one featured in our logo. Dart Frog is made with hops mostly from New Zealand. A lighter grain bill is paired with a delicate but pungent-with-flavor selection of hops. Tropical aromas and a soft pillowy mouthfeel are complemented by flavors of wine grapes, berries, and tropical fruit salad.
Detox – Pilsner – 5.5% ABV - There is nothing more pure and less forgiving than one of our personal favorite styles of lager, a German style Pilsner. Our version is unfiltered, dry and crisp on the malt profile and hopped with noble hops. A light bill of premium Pilsner malt is complemented by crisp notes of floral and lemongrass. It's another perfect beer for those afternoons when you need to pace yourself, but still want a flavorful treat.
Devil’s Trumpet – Double IPA – 8.2% ABV – Devil's Trumpet is the first Double IPA we ever brewed on our 5 BBL Brewhouse. It started as an experiment to brew a very hop saturated Double IPA with readily available hops. The result was a flavor punch of accidental wonderment. We fell in love with the strong aromas that lead to favors of peach and citrus pine, and immediately added this gem to our regular lineup.
Double Agent - Double IPA - 8% - There isn't much description needed here. We scaled up “Agent O” into a shameless Juice Bomb. This is our all Citra Double IPA that features mostly whirlpool hop additions, with a heavy dry hopping to follow... all with Citra. Be careful, paired with a subtle but present malt flavor, this smooth and juicy 8% will sneak up on you like a Double Agent.
Nerium – Pale Ale – 5.5% ABV - Nerium is our hop forward Pale Ale brewed with Australian grown hops. It starts with an extremely simple recipe and our house pale ale yeast, which create a canvas for the hop flavors to shine. We characterize the flavor as “dank berries,” with notes include the pine resin, berries, and subtle tropical fruit.
Deadly Nightshade – Coffee Milk Stout – 5.6% ABV – Our coffee milk stout uses less roasted malts and milk sugar to let the sweetness and rich, bold flavors come through. We want it to be approachable but pleasantly sweet so we thickened it up to a texture that screams dessert... Each batch is dosed with an unreasonable amount of a different single origin, or blend of coffee that we roast and grind ourselves at Tox.
Lily of the Valley – Fruited Berliner Weisse –5.0% ABV – Lily of the Valley is our sweet and sour, fruited Berliner Weisse style ale. It starts with our kettle soured Berliner, a pinch of lactose, and a whole bunch of rotating fruit based flavors!
Placebo Effect – Cream Ale – 5% ABV – We love our fancy craft beer like family, but sometimes even we just want to enjoy some yellow fizzy stuff. This is our signature cream ale made with the simplest grains and corn (yes, corn). Meeting the style guidelines of a traditional pre-prohibition US Cream Ale, this is one of two beer styles that was truly invented in America. This cream ale holds a place in our hearts as the most drinkable beer we've been able to concoct. It's great for a day of mowing your lawn, a round of flip cup, or kicking back on game day.
Pollen – Pale Ale – 5.5% ABV -Pollen is our rotating hop Pale Ale series. Pollen uses a consistent simple grain selection and ale yeast paired with a rotating selection of hops. The idea here is to highlight the subtleties of our favorite single hops... or hops we wish to learn more about. The result is a beer with a crisp golden color and a pillowy mouth feel, each version being unique in its own way.
***This is an evolving list as we continue experimenting and pushing our limits to provide new offerings***
Achievement Day - Rye IPA - 6.0% ABV - We wanted to make this one of the first batches we ever brewed on our 5 BBL system to celebrate the accomplishment of reaching the starting line… Opening Tox Brewing Company to the public. The three of us put our heads together to collaborate on this Rye IPA using a new yeast for us. While retaining its fluffy mouthfeel, the nose is citrus and grapefruit, followed by flavors of tropical, ripe citrus, floral, lemon and grapefruit. All complemented by a more complex malt layer featuring a present but delicate hint of Rye.
Belladonna - Chocolate Coconut Stout - 6.0% ABV - Belladonna has quickly become one of our favorites here at Tox. We start with a thick base stout and cram it full of freshly toasted coconut, raw cacao nibs, and vanilla beans. Let it warm in your glass as flavors of dark chocolate evolve into buttery coconut.
Copperhead – American Amber – 5.0% ABV – Copperhead is our American Amber Ale. We use crystal malts and a hint of black patent malts to achieve the traditional coloring and malt characteristic. It is topped off with a touch of dry hop to exhibit mild flavors of spicy pine and citrus. We hope this beer provides a swift and spicy bite like the snake we named it after, but also a balanced flavorful finish that comes in soft and peaceful, much like a walk through the Connecticut forest it occupies.
Crocus - Kölsch - 5% ABV - Our version of a German style Kölsch. A simple bed of pilsner and carapils is is fermented with German Kölsch yeast and then endurs a lager style crash. Light easy drinking pale that finishes crisp and clean.
Ermahgourd - 6.1% ABV - Gourd Almighty! We chunk up nearly 50 locally grown squashes per batch to bring you this All-American Autumn offering. Orange in color with a subtle cinnamon and nutmeg aroma, this beer represents Autumn in a glass.
Gift - Vienna Style Lager - 4.5% ABV - This is our interpretation of a Vienna Lager. Amber-reddish in color, our goal was extreme balance between semi-sweet and bready malt flavors and a crisp, dry, noble hop taste. We think we succeeded. “Gift” is also a German word that directly translates to “Poison” in English.
Holly - Winter Spiced Ale - Way back when Jon was still mentoring us on a 5-gallon homebrew setup, he was already making this once a year winter spiced ale that is never the same. Depending on how he feels that day, week, month, or year will heavily influence this holiday treat... Sometimes he even lets us collaborate with him! We have seen him use Vanilla, Cinnamon, spices, herbs, and who knows what else. We are happy to have him bring it to you every holiday season.
Magik Monkshood - 6.8% ABV - Our Fruited Harvest Ale made to celebrate Autumn! We start with a dark Saison style ale and let it finish fermenting on top of seasonal fruit. For this batch decided to use Cranberry and Tangerine, seasonal fruit from near and far. Tart cranberry and tangy citrus evolve into a pleasant reminder of the saison yeast strain at play, all wrapped in a warming malt body and pleasant hint of bitterness.
Mantis - Connecticut Table Beer - 4.1% ABV- Excited by a new funky yeast to hit the market, we decided to craft a beer along the style guidelines of a Grisette or Saison with it in mind. We then decided to 100% make it with Connecticut ingredients. We chose a light, crisp malt profile from our friends at Thrall that includes raw Triticale, paired with a floral fruity tasting CT grown hop. The phenolic and fruity yeast esters have all kinds of fun wild characteristics, making this a real party for the palate. We are calling it our Connecticut Table Beer and named it after our state insect, the Praying Mantis - one of nature’s most interesting creatures and ruthless killers.
Pharm Party - Rotating Experimental Series - This beer is never to be brewed the same twice! Pharm Party is our research and development series where we experiment with every variable possible in pursuit of our next great thing… or when we just have some leftover ingredients we need to use up. It often puts an emphasis on our hoppy beer research.
Toxtoberfest - Märzen - 6.2% ABV - This is our take on an Oktoberfest Märzen Lager that features the finest German malts and hops. The result is a full-bodied but sessionable beer perfect for football-viewing needs and keeping lookout for Trick-or-Treaters.
Wisteria – Coffee Maple Stout – 10% ABV – Say hello to breakfast! This imperial breakfast stout starts with a thick base and meticulously chosen dark malts and flaked adjuncts. It was first made with Jon's home-roasted coffee and Mike's own homemade, Grade A Very Dark maple syrup from his trees and sugar maple trees around his neighborhood. Since making our commercial transition we handpicked local maple syrup that meets our standards and carefully selected raw coffee beans that we roast in house. It was important for us to keep control over these variables in order to keep the foundation of what has made this one of our favorite beers to make each year.
***We have so many ideas and plans to grow this list as we become fully operational***
